Belize Music



Garifuna Culture displays many influences as also does the African .


The drums are used often times a particular drum style will call for two drummers( except for sacred music which usually uses three ) . There are many styles and influences. Here are some of them:

Punta

A type of music which originates from the Garifuna people, descendants of West Africans and Caribs. By dancing punta, keep your arms and elbows close to your upper body, flexed, while shaking your behind and turning around.

Brukdown

The lyrics use the Kriol language, and Brukdown is considered to be Belizean rural music at its best. Originated from the days of enslaved Africans. they gather late at night for drumming, dancing, and chanting as a way to enjoy themselves and relax


Paranda

A soulful sound backed by guitars and drums.
